Netball New Zealand is pleased to announce the 12-player National Development Squad team that will play the Cook Islands national team in a two-match series starting next week in Rarotonga. The team, under the direction of National Development Squad coach Kiri Wills, features a mix of NZ Age Group, Secondary Schools and ANZ Championship players including Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic’s Jamie-Lee Price and SKYCITY Mystics 2016 signings of Holly Fowler, Michaela Sokolich-Beatson and Fa’amu Ioane. They will play two matches against the Cook Islands national team, the Black Pearls, on Tuesday 15 December and Wednesday 16 December at TSA Stadium. The National Development Squad team will depart New Zealand for Rarotonga on Monday 14 December. The Silver Ferns Squad features eight players from the team that won silver at Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015, including experienced campaigners Laura Langman, Katrina Grant, Maria Tutaia and Leana de Bruin. New to the squad are defenders Jess Moulds (Mainland Tactix) and Storm Purvis (Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel), as well as midcourter Gina Crampton (Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel). While experienced defender Anna Harrison (SKYCITY Mystics) makes her return following the birth of her second child. Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby says the squad is an exciting blend of youth and experience. “I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen this week.
