Recent Stories:
Boosted by the return of a couple of a pair of key players, Onslow College successfully defended the College Sport Wellington Regional Championship Senior Girls Futsal title at the one-day tournament at the ASB Centre last week. Onslow have won a three-peat of titles and captain Maddie Porteous said the team was delighted to win again, with several new players this year. “We had a new team this year and we only won two games in the just completed Wellington Zone Girls Premier League competition,” said Maddie. “So to win this tournament once more was really amazing.” Read more HERE
Year 11 Papamoa College athlete Jaxon Woolley’s goal is to compete for New Zealand at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. Jaxon has just completed an outstanding summer in athletics, breaking sprinting records in the T38 category he competes in. I have now broken the 100m U17 Para Boys [T38 classification] record multiple times this year. I was definitely aiming for that; I am long listed for the Commonwealth Games so have been trying to get my times closer to the qualifying although Paris Paralympics is my goal in two years’ time. New NZ 100m women's record holder Zoe Hobbs is part of a group of super-competitive women’s sprinters pushing each other on to faster times and personal best performances. There is now a new generation coming through too, headed by Auckland’s Talia Van Rooyen, who at just 15 is turning out some quick times to match that of Hobbs and others before her. Read more HERE
Wakatipu High School’s Ruby Andrews (17) has won the freeski slopestyle title at the FIS Park and Pipe Junior World Championships in Switzerland. Andrews started her first run with a technical back swap on the rainbow rail before lacing together a solid jump section and finishing off with a 270 onto the final rail. She was rewarded 85.40 by the judges for this run, her score remaining untouchable for the remainder of the event. Read more HERE

Secondary School Sport – Term 1 2022 updates:
Welcome to the 2022 secondary school sport year in New Zealand.
Since 2015, the College Sport New Zealand Charitable Trust, through this website, College Sport Media, has covered New Zealand secondary school sport through profiling young sportspeople and teams and event coverage. Visit our Index of Articles page for our archives or search the 'Articles' tab in the menu bar here.
Unfortunately, 2021 was a another hugely disruptive year on the secondary school sporting front - particularly in the wider Auckland region.
Eighty percent (80%) of national school events have been cancelled over the past two years.
2022 remains challenging, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
If you have a sports news story, a team or individual profile or an event you want to promote to the wider audience anytime and anywhere in New Zealand, please get in touch with us on editor@collegesportmedia.co.nz -
We have an ongoing and positive relationship with College Sport Wellington, assisting CSW and the schools it administers in promoting their secondary school sports athletes and teams. So also check out our ongoing profiles and stories there at https://collegesport.org.nz/
