New Zealand Netball have selected 12 players selected to represent the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) team. The NZSS team will participate in the International School Girls Competition at The Trusts Arena, Auckland, from 2 – 6 May, 2016 Former Silver Fern and NZ U21 assistant coach, Julie Seymour, will lead the team with Mary-Jane Araroa as her assistant coach. The team features three players from the two Auckland schools that contested last year’s NZSS final, Elle Temu from champions Mt Albert Grammar School and Sydney Fraser and Mererangi Paul from runners-up St Kentigern College. Two players have been selected from Wellington’s St Mary’s College - Ainsleyana Puleiata and Renee Savai’inaea and two players have made the team from Rotorua Girls’ High school - Tayla Earle and Grace Watson. From last year’s team, shooters Sydney Fraser and Tiana Metuarau (Wellington East Girls’ College) and defender Courtney Elliott (Tai Wananga Ki Ruakura) return to the side. Lily Marshall from St Margaret’s College represents the South Island, while Briana Stephenson from Napier Girls’ High School recently won three gold medals (in long jump, high jump and relay sprinting) at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
