Youth Olympic Games 2018, 2020

2020 Youth Winter Olympic Games

1800 athletes aged 15 to 18 will compete in eight sports from the 9th until the 22nd of January 2020 as part of the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne.

The athletes will compete across Switzerland, and neighbouring France, enabling many regions to be a part of the Olympic spirit. Eleven New Zealand athletes competed at the previous edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games, winning two medals. Four of the athletes went on to be selected for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

As the New Zealand team is selected, we will add the names below:

ARCHIVE: The third Youth Olympic Games run from 6–18 October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Up to 90 New Zealand athletes will be selected to compete in the games that mirror the full Olympic Games but also carry a spirit of culture and education.

The Youth Olympic Games will also feature a slightly different sporting programme than the full games. New sports being showcased include BMX freestyle, kitesurfing, cross country running, beach handball, climbing, and breakdancing and roller sports. Futsal will also replace football.
