The 2016 New Zealand Secondary Schools Duathlon Championships [run/bike] were held in Pukekohe over the weekend. Daniel Hoy (Westlake Boys’ High School), Bradley Cullen (Hamilton Boys’ High School) and Daniel Whitburn (Saint Kentigern College) came first, second and third in the U19 Boys race. Katherine Badham (Takapuna Grammar School), Bayley Rose Van de Coolwijk (St Mary’s College) and Kaylee Mudgway (Tauranga Girls’ College) were the first three home in the Girls U19 race. Other winners included Dylan Mucculloch (Saint Kentigern College) in the Boys U16 race, Amelia Persson (Christchurch GHS) in the Girls U16 race, Laurence Pithie (Christchurch BHS) in the Boys U14 race and Charli Millar (St Peter’s Cambridge) in the Girls U14 race. The Christchurch Girls' High School First XV won the Crusaders region Girls rugby competition last week at Ilam Fields, beating Forward Foundation, 22-15 in the final. The College Sport Wellington Junior Netball Tournament Finalist teams after their tournament last week, with St Mary's College beating Wellington East Girls’ College 18-11 to win the 2016 Tanya Dearns trophy. The Southland Secondary Schools Sports Indoor Bowls tournament was played last week, with 96 Year 7 to 13 students competing. The overall school winner was James Hargest College, who also provided the winning pair of Caleb Hope (who previously finished third overall in the NZSS singles) and Hannah Wilson. Hastings Boys’ High School won the Super 8 Boys rugby competition on Saturday, beating Hamilton Boys’ High School. First five-eighth First five-eighth Lincoln McClutchie bagged a double for Hastings while fullback Danny Toala had his kicking boots on in landing all six kicks on goal for the home side. Hastings is unbeaten this season and will eye up the Hurricanes title in the coming weeks. They host St Pat’s Town this Saturday in the first of the knockout matches. St Andrew's, who held the famous Moascar Cup earlier this year, were winners and go on to play St Bede's College in the Bowl final this coming Saturday. Christchurch Boys' High School and Shirley Boys' High School meet for the Cup and Timaru Boys' High School and Marlborough Boys' College contest the Plate.
